There is something strangely disappointing about coming home from a good trip. You spend days looking forward to the journey, counting down to your flight, imagining the food you will eat, the places you will see and the things you will do. Then, almost before you have had enough time to process it, the trip is over and you are back at the airport.

There was probably a time when seeing your family did not require planning. You simply saw them. Someone was always around. A sibling was in the sitting room. A parent was calling you to come and eat. Cousins appeared during school holidays. Someone was arguing over the television. Someone else was laughing too loudly in the kitchen. Family time happened because everyone was simply there.
